Fabulous polka dot design by Japanese Contemporary Artist Yayoi Kusama. This is a rare Kusam design from the SPRZ NY Uniqlo MOMA collaboration with her. This is a Museum of Modern Art Special Edition. This Kusama fashion accessory so versatile that can be used in a variety of ways - a light wrap, a pareo, sarong, neck scarf, head covering, or hijab. Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese contemporary artist who works primarily in sculpture and installation, but is also active in painting, performance, film, fashion, poetry, fiction, and other arts. She has been acknowledged as one of the most important living artists to come out of Japan. She is really fabulous, so I had to include a picture of her in the listing. Polka dots are a signature element of her work, she has said the yellow polka dots represent the sun (or nothing at all). She has also said that the repeating marks evoke a sense of vastness. She once described them as reflecting “the great depth of my inner heart.” Like much of her work the accumulation of her repeating marks stems largely from the aural and visual hallucinations Kusama had been experiencing since she was 10 years old. “I translate the hallucinations and obsessional images that plague me into sculptures and paintings,” she once explained.
